three story in the forest this is written by David Schwartz and photographs are by the white look once this bright white streak is on the back of a little creature with a loud voice look again in summer and fall Chipmunks are busy gathering food they carry nuts seeds and fruit in their cheek pouches bury the food in underground and a chipmunks Den has many little rooms summer for sleeping summer for storing food when winter comes the Chipmunk will eat all of its hidden food look once you get too close to the skin it will disappear inside a shell look again the box turtle when scared a box turtle pulls itself into its shell tight is a box some people keep box turtles as pets they can live up to one hundred good years old look once these of a creepy crawly they're from a plant that carpets the forest floor ferns have tiny brown balls underneath early Parts these balls are cold sores when the is a ripe millions of tiny spores Fly Away In The Wind some land nearby and some travel very far a few will grow into new fern once is this part of a tree is it part of a rock no it's from the a big following fellow who lives in the Northern woods where are the crown of antlers in the summertime these antlers are covered with soft furry skin called velvet in the fall falls off the hard bony antlers next spring and they'll be even bigger than this year's antlers once this looks feathery but it's not from a bird it belongs to an animal that flutters ground at night it has antenna it actually has two antennas but the one you were looking at was just one it's a big colorful cecropia moth the male moth has two feathery antennas uses them like a nose a male moth can smell a female 3 miles away what's at the other end of this black-tipped tail look again it's an ermine or short-tailed weasel in the summer and women's fur is dark by winter Herman turn Snow White except for that black tip on the end of the tale why do you think the German changes its coat look once what tree has bark that looks like paper look again it's a white birch also call the paper birch you can see why years ago Native Americans use that paper e birch bark to make their canoes birch bark has many layers the outer layers peel naturally make a Tight Seal around the trees trunk never peel a birch bark if water in insects get in a Kim hurt the tree now this book has looked closely at someone credible photography and then yes what it was I hope you had fun
