hello kindergarten today we're going to try something new because it's now April we're going to start a new unit on castles and fairy tales so I thought we'd start with Louie a new song and learning a little bit about castles no castles were built for one reason and that was to keep people safe now they came in all different shapes and size what medieval castles had parts of the castle that were similar now when we look at pictures of castles you can see that they were had long lots of strong walls round Towers or turrets and these are the keep the people inside safe from the people outside that builds kinds of castles make sure that everybody was safe now one of the ways to protect yourself was with this big wall around the outside now that was important but you have to have a way that you can control Stonewall and on wall so a lot of them used a moat now a moat is a big wide trench that goes the castle and usually it was filled with water no I'm like what you see in cartoons the water never ever had alligators in it because alligators didn't live where they building moats but once you head this moat this big area water around the castle you had to have a way to get inside so they build a bridge a drawbridge when they pull the drawer up then nobody could get in cuz you would have to cross over the water and the Stonewall but if it was for the drawbridge they can ride the horses walk across the drawbridge castle if your drawbridge was down and it was still a problem it was another way to protect yourself it was a very strong gate that would come right down behind the drawbridge it was called the portcullis that the portcullis was usually a gate that you could see through and shoot through and that it would come down in the spikes on the porch place would go down into the ground to make it extra strong that way people couldn't get into the castle Now give me a strong castles the walls were very very sick and they need to be really really sick because as more more people got castles people got very creative and how to get into castles and so quite often they would make large catapults to throw stones at the walls if your wall is not very and it's not very strong the stones would knock it down and the walls very very thick know we talked about many times Mueller mistakes mistakes are okay they first the first hours they built we're square and the square Towers will go straight up and they had four sides and four corners like a square was with a large from a catapult if you hit it on the corner the tower would fall down so then I thought well that's not working how can we fix it that's what I came up with the idea of a round Tower or round because that way if the Rocks hit it the energy of the impact was spread all the way around the circle instead of in one spot and those round Towers can tended to stand round towers work better than Square Towers so towers are also called her it's so you still have to feed everybody and you have to take care of everything animals that come in as well chickens and pigs sheep and horses so inside the castle was almost always a green area with lots of growing grass called the Bailey know this was important because with all the animals bring inside you going to have to be able to have them be able to eat something inside the castle this is also where they put things like Gardens and other things that would benefit everybody who lived in the castle now even if you got past the mode past the drawbridge pasta portcullis and you got into the Bailey there was still one last line of defense and that was the keep never keep was the strong most powerful part of the castle and very very difficult to get into cheap was also where the Great Hall was where everyone ate and they would get together and eat in large groups is very important not only for eating but also for all the things inside the castle entertain know if you're looking inside the key you're not going to find the kitchen well that's because the kitchen was a huge fireplace and because they were constantly cooking animals usually over what was the spit where someone about five years old would be in charge of turning the spit and keeping the meat moving so that it didn't burn on one side but because of that there was a animal fat was very very slow and quite often kitchen call on fire so they realized if we put the key in the Great Hall are near the cheap then we will end up losing the whole key and that didn't work so what they do is they would move the kitchen by itself so that if it did catch on fire then it wouldn't affect keep never keep was very important so that's why the kitchen was usually on its own outside of the keep so that if it did what you did put often it would protect everybody inside no today's song it goes to a true that you probably already know so we're going to start by hugging ourselves Castle keeps us safe the castle keeps us safe hi-ho where Mario the castle keeps us safe then we get to the moat shovel to dig in the ground and dig out the dirt really deep is really deep Heigh-Ho cross the moat we needed that's right the drawbridge so the down the drawbridge went up and down hi ho or Mario the drawbridge been down so then remember that even if you got across the drawbridge there was still that gate call the Fort Ellis the poor colors is a gate the portcullis is a gay Hi Ho Cherry-O the four colors is a gate inside the walls that uses to make really strong arms the walls are really strong the walls hi hope Tower or turret on the tall the towers wrong once we got inside the Bailey Bailey's grassy green Sebring High home that's where the Great Hall is and that's where we eat is where we eat the Great Hall Hi Ho Cherry-O the Great Hall is where we eat then remember that kitchen not in the keep its on its own the Kitchens on its own the Kitchens on its own job last but not least the end where we started the castle keeps the safe the castle keeps us safe hi ho Mario the castle keeps us safe so they are all the parts to our castle song now I love DC videos of you singing the song all together and don't forget each Castle Park are you ready I will sing it together right now love yourself the castle keeps us a the castle keeps us a hi ho the merrio the castle keeps his safe mode is really deep the mode is really deep Heigh-Ho drawbridge goes up and down the drawbridge Hi Ho Cherry-O up and down the portcullis the portcullis is a gate the portcullis is hi ho the merrio the propellers is a gate good what is that round trip the ground until I hold a good dog babies grass seed the baby's grassy green hi ho hi ho the merrio the the Kitchens on its own the Kitchens on its own the castle keeps play the castle keeps to say Hi Ho Cherry-O the
