today's story is chipmunk at Hollow Tree Lane the stories written by Victoria Shero illustrated by Alan Davis one November morning sunshine lights up the big backyard behind the blue house on Hollow Tree Lane under the shadow of a maple tree under her underground burrow at The Yards Edge the air feels because the weather is changing winter is coming soon Chipmunks Denver Borough it's time to get to work juice campers to the crisp scattered all over the yard in the summer there are many strawberries blueberries and blackberries to eat Chipmunks toward some of their seeds for The Long Winter head but now juicy berries are gone suddenly chipmunk comes on a bush with some dark red berries on it chick chick chick chick chick chick chick chick chick chick chick chick are viburnum berries with a delicious that can be saved for winter meals chipmunk must hurry the birds in the yard like these berries to Berry's chewing faster and faster she drops the heels on the ground all winter long stop the seeds inside her striped cheeks with a safely carried in special pouches or cheeks stretch like balloons as she adds more and more Scene finding no more berries chipmunk runs back to a burro she scurries down the tunnel is a fluffy Nest a dry grass and leaves buried underneath the nest in a secret hiding place are other seeds and nuts that chipmunk has been Gathering all summer and fall the front paws chipmunk pushes aside the Bluegrass the cover the stored food she quickly and add these new seeds to the other and she climbed more food she stops near the woods on the other side of the yard there she spy some acre among the following leave under the oak tree is a chipmunk allowed squawk a buffer darts under the edge of a big rock safe from danger tree branches as she waits out from Beneath The Rock black crow lands dry leaves text ground for food after the crow Chipmunks crumbles back into the open together acorns she reaches her one nut then another until she's crammed three acorns inside each cheek two races back to a burrow to hide these nuts she climbs back out again that's together and winter will be here once again as she works another Chipmunks greatest towards the trees triple cups up until rocketbook Spears chip chip chip chip chip Hazard tail thumbs up and down this is a warning to the stranger to go away sitting on its hind legs the other chipmunk listens and runs back into the woods chipmunk curing a corn from the oak tree Tarboro pink worm late afternoon sunshine flickers through the branches casting Lacey Shadows on the ground chipmunk searches carefully for one last load food for a good night's sleep tomorrow she'll have to leave her bro again to find no more seeds or nuts together as the days turn Frosty and the Earth hardens chipmunk stays in her burrow on her soft cozy Nest safe from December snow oh and wins perfect winter coat gives her warm chipmunk spends most of the winter sleeping from time to time she wakes to munch on the food buried in her nest snug in her Borough chipmunk will wait for the warm spring sunshine will it become fresh green plants tree Buds and other things good to eat in the backyard of the blue house on Hollow Tree Lane
