today's story is the fox written by Angela Royston illustrated by Bernard Robinson the Young Bucks curls up with a bushy tail wrapped around her nose and falls asleep two days ago she left the woods where she lived with her mother and the other Cubs and now she is tired the fox wakes up in the evening it's time to continue her journey But first you must eat she smells chickens at a farm nearby and wait until it's dark then Gap in the wire in house clock with beer and wake a sleeping on the roof its flaps and the fox pounces and kills it when she's eating the fox runs on until Daybreak when she stops in wood any further with a grassy Hollow in it down to sleep the badger who made the underground home is coming back Fox runs away and sleeps under a hawthorn bush instead that might the fox explores the woods it's smells of rabbits and mice what does smells you notice has the most is the scent of other foxes there are plenty of blackberries and beetles and snails for the fox to eat and she hunts for frogs and bigger prey one night she finds a hedgehog but she can unroll and Paul summer passes in the fox must find a den for the cold winter months she chooses an old Fox Hole but first she has to clear out all the rubbish by the elapsed Fox walks around and around the area near her Den so that she can leave her scent on the trees and the grass she wants other foxes to know that she there know that she's made a comfortable home the female box or Vixen wants a mate at night she whales and Barks calling all the male foxes who live nearby mailbox here's her and her answer her call every night they play together in mock battles and soon they mate now it's deep winter and food is hard to find the fox has to be clever and brave she steals Ducks from a farm and even a text a beer twice or 7 weeks after she's mated the babies are born The Vixens Cubs are beautiful the Cubs curl up close to her to keep warm clothes to the Cubs what are milk and washing them while the male Fox brings her food when spring arrives the Cubs are nearly a month old one evening they leave the Earth for the first time the Vixen watches out for danger as the Cubs play together out in the open play Chase flies and Feathers blowing in the wind they pounced on each other and on mother's tail and they fight for bones when they're two months old the Cubs are big enough to go hunting with their mother they look for birds nests and steal the eggs they learn to pounce on prey instead of snapping at it and soon they can catch rabbits voles and mice to Summer arrived and the female victim is tired from looking after her family the rest before winter comes one by one the Cubs leave their mother and the woods and set out to find their own place to live so boxes can't stay in one area when they're big enough they need to go off on their own find their own place to live
