Lee Story in the forest in the forest by Shira Evans know this book has a table of contents we can look up what we want to read about or we can read it from the beginning to the end this book has lost different information in it what in the forest many things in the forest are living tall trees started out as small seeds growing and changing slowly over many years the animals here are living two as well the ferns are living so are the animals living things need water food and some to grow some things in the forest are nonliving like rocks they're not alive the air is alive the water isn't alive either non-living things don't eat they don't drink they don't need air now it's your turn look at this picture see if you can figure out which are living and which are nonliving remember nonliving does not mean dead it means that it's never been alive changes in the forest spring the tree's leaves are small they're so small that they don't block the sunlight the light Pours Down to the forest lore sunlight helps flowers start to grow the forest has new plants in the spring animals are born in the spring the fir Blends in with the 4th floor to help them stay safe in the spring a deer is born its first Brown its color helps it to hide other babies are brown the forest becomes green and during the long summer days block sunlight from reaching the forest floor berries and nuts begin to grow in the summer they will soon be ready to eat in the summer animals eat the right fruits and berries that grow throughout the forest cheddar of the cheddar the animals feels they are talking back and forth to each other the forest is warm in the summer more fruits grow and there's lots of food to eat in the fall the days begin to shorten and get chillier this was sunlight and the leaves start to lose their color the leaves will drop in the fall the leaves cover the fourth floor chipmunks and squirrels gather acorns in the fall they hide the nuts under leaves or an s in the trees the animals worked hard in the fall they save the nuts to be able to eat later winter days are short in the sun is low in the sky animals slowed in the forest looks empty the forest is quiet in the winter it's cold and still hibernate in the winter they slow down their heart beats and sleep for a long long time in the winter some animals stay warm in the den in caves hoping for a Beaver Falls a heavy log into the water helps build a bigger and bigger wall the wall makes a dam beavers build dams to keep their home safe a dam also stops the river water from flowing when the water doesn't flow it forms a pond and the water level rises what do plants Cardinal Lanes on a bush in the forest the bush has bright red berries the berries are food for the bird soon the bird flies away in land of the new part of the forest as the Cardinal flies it drops the seed from the Barry throughout the forest the seeds get her on the fourth floor new bushes will grow where the Cardinal drops the seeds the bird helps the forest to grow Seven Trees hang low with the streams and ponds they shave the water from the hot sun the fish in the Stream need cool water but the Sun is hot the trees shade and then helps the water stay cool fungus are not plants or animals can't help the forest to some fungus grow on trees and feed on things that have died the fungi turn Dead Leaves and wood into soil new soil to grow the fungi help animals in the forest live in many places some animals make homes up high others live down low a bird lives in a nest in the high tree a fox build the den on the ground although there are different types of plants and animals in the forest they need one another to grow animals and no with Forest some of and plants and fungi really depend on each other for the forest to survive if any one of them wasn't there it would be difficult for the others to survive so they all work together
